About Your Prostate
All men know that they have a prostate, but most men don’t know what it is or what it does until there’s a problem with it.
That's correct. The prostate gland is an essential part of the male reproductive system. It produces a fluid that nourishes and protects sperm. During ejaculation, the prostate gland contracts and helps propel semen through the urethra and out of the penis. The prostate also plays a role in regulating urine flow by wrapping around the urethra and contracting to push urine out of the bladder. However, problems with the prostate, such as inflammation or cancer, can cause discomfort and serious health issues.
Unless you’re having prostate problems you’ll never realize it’s there. An enlarged prostate can make going to the toilet difficult; there’s a condition called prostatitis whereby it can become inflamed and very painful, and then there’s cancer of the prostate too.
Any changes, just see your doctor – don’t be embarrassed, they’re there to help and have seen it all before (and much worse, trust me).
Kegel exercises can help maintain prostate health. When you contract and relax the male pelvic floor it massages the prostate, which can help to reduce the build up of toxins inside. They can also help if there’s been a problem with your prostate and you have had to undergo surgery. They can help with erectile dysfunction and male incontinence too.
