Do I need a pelvic stimulation device?
Maybe things just don't feel the same 'down there' and that's why you found us. Our pelvic floor muscles start to deteriorate from the age of 18 onwards. Pelvic floor muscles, or Kegel muscles, help us to keep control of our bladder, bowel, and wind, whilst adding that 'zing' for a satisfying love-life too! So our pelvic floor is vitally important, but we aren't always taught how to look after it properly. Locating the pelvic floor muscles accurately can be difficult, and 'bad Kegels' (those performed incorrectly) can actually do more harm than good. Kegel8 will help you to: Locate the pelvic floor muscles correctly - to maximize your Kegel exercises Strengthen the muscles of your pelvic floor correctly and effectively Exercise using clinically based programmes for the very best results Maintain control of your bladder & bowel to keep your pelvic floor fit and healthy - whatever your age Here at Kegel8, we know you have a busy life, with many priorities that are greater than your own. Children, husband, aged parents, career, dog, housework - we all have a list, and sadly that leaves us at the bottom. That's why you can use your Kegel8 Pelvic Toner for just 10 - 15 minutes a day, for just 12 weeks, to get really noticeable results. It's never too late to start exercising with Kegel8 to reverse the signs of ageing in your pelvic floor, regain control and enjoy a satisfying love-life. No matter how weak or strong your pelvic floor is right now, you will be able to improve with Kegel8.
What does pelvic STIM feel like?
Comfortable and controllable - with Kegel8 you control the intensity at all times. Kegel8 electronic machines use neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) to exercise and bring weakened pelvic floor muscles back to life. You'll be amazed at how comfortable it is to use and will feel a gentle tingling or light pulling sensation as the muscle contracts. The electrical pulse will hold the muscle contraction for a set time. When the pulse stops the muscles will relax. This contraction and relaxation routine continues throughout the programme. Because we are all different, you control the intensity (mAs) of the pulse that you feel - you should aim for the gentle tingling rather an uncomfortable pull! Please remember, you can use an electrode probe vaginally or anally or, if you prefer, you can use electrode pads on specific areas on the surface of your body (tibial and sacral nerve stimulation available on the Kegel8 Ultra 20 only).
How long before I see results with Pelvic STIM?
No two women are ever the same and results vary for us all. With a Kegel8 unit, we ask you to exercise once or twice daily for a 12 week period. By exercising daily you will coax your weak pelvic floor back to strength and improved sensation - but it will usually take about two weeks before you really start to notice a difference. Clinical evidence shows us that there are other things as well as exercising that will contribute to better results from your Kegel8. Improving your posture, supplementing with Vitamin D3, and weight loss will contribute greatly to amplifying the results you can achieve. We know that like most women your life is hectic, and it is quite possible that your needs often come at the end of a very long list. That's why we have designed Kegel8 to fit around your busy lifestyle; you need to feel improvements so you don't become demoralized and give up! Many women are delighted to report that their partner notices improvements even before they do, which is always a great incentive to carry on the exercising. The number one reason Kegel exercises fail is because we either don't feel they are working or we give up too soon. If you are ready to commit to just 12 weeks of regular daily exercise, you will be amazed at the improvement in tone, strength, control and sensation.
Can I just use liners instead of using pelvic STIM?
Panty liners and pads can offer peace of mind in case of the occasional leak, but they’re not a long-term solution. Let’s face it—dealing with accidents, especially when you don’t make it to the washroom in time, is uncomfortable and frustrating. Many women experience bladder leaks at some point, especially around certain times of the month when the pelvic floor may feel weaker.
However, it's important not to rely on liners or pads as your only strategy. Bladder leaks—whether from laughing, sneezing, or urgency—aren’t just a “normal” part of motherhood or aging. They’re actually a sign that your pelvic floor muscles are weakened and need attention. Without proper care, these symptoms can worsen and may lead to more serious issues like pelvic organ prolapse. In fact, 1 in 2 women over 50 will experience some form of prolapse.
Bladder leaks can affect your confidence, your intimate relationships, and your overall well-being. On top of that, the environmental and financial costs of using disposable pads add up—Canadian women can use thousands of products over a lifetime, most of which end up in landfills.
So instead of just padding the problem, take control with a Kegel8 unit. It’s a cleaner, greener, and more effective solution—and it might just boost your confidence and intimate health along the way!
Is the Kegel8 just for sex or intimacy?
Not at all! When we attend women’s health and fitness events across Canada, we hear these questions a lot—and we’re here to clear things up.
Does it vibrate? No—Kegel8 is completely silent. It’s not a sex toy; it’s a medically certified device designed to help you take control of your pelvic health and overall well-being.
Is it just for improving intimacy? No—while many women do report improved sensation and confidence, the Kegel8 is primarily about restoring control, reducing leaks, and improving your quality of life.
I’m not sexually active, so my pelvic floor must be strong—right? Unfortunately, no. Just like any muscle, if the pelvic floor isn’t used or strengthened, it can weaken over time. One woman told us, “I hadn’t had sex in years and thought everything would be tight—like the first time again—but I was surprised to feel loose and disconnected. That’s when I realized I needed to actively strengthen my pelvic floor.”
If using a vaginal probe isn’t right for you—whether due to preference, age, or physical limitations—the Kegel8 Ultra 20 still offers options. It includes external stimulation modes like tibial and sacral nerve stimulation, making it accessible for all women. This is especially helpful for older adults who want to regain bladder or bowel control without internal use.
It’s worth noting that incontinence is one of the top reasons women are admitted to long-term care facilities in Canada. With Kegel8, there’s now a clinically backed, dignified, and easy-to-use solution that can be done from the comfort of home—helping you maintain independence, health, and confidence at any stage of life.
Can I use a Kegel8 device if I have an IUD or Mirena coil?
Yes, it is safe to use a Kegel8 electronic pelvic toner if you have a Mirena coil or another type of intrauterine device (IUD) fitted. IUDs are placed inside the uterus through the cervix, while the Kegel8 vaginal probe is positioned in the lower part of the vaginal canal—typically within the first two inches—so there is no interference.
If you prefer not to use a vaginal probe, the Kegel8 Ultra 20 also includes external programs that allow you to strengthen your pelvic floor and manage overactive bladder using electrode pads.
Whether your IUD is plastic, like the Mirena, or made with copper, both are completely safe to use alongside Kegel8 NMES (neuromuscular electrical stimulation) pelvic toners.
How often can I use a pelvic toner like Kegel8?
For best results, we recommend using your Kegel8 pelvic toner once a day for the first 12 weeks when exercising with a vaginal or anal probe. If you're eager to see faster progress, you can perform two sessions per day—but make sure they’re spaced at least 6 hours apart to prevent pelvic floor muscle fatigue.
Signs of fatigue include a temporary worsening of symptoms. If this occurs, reduce the treatment time (e.g., cut the session in half) and limit use to once a day or every other day. Remember, pelvic floor strengthening is most effective when it’s done gradually and consistently.
If you’re using electrode pads instead of a probe, the same general guidelines apply: one or two sessions daily for up to 12 weeks, with at least 6 hours between sessions to avoid fatigue.
For pain relief and relaxation, the low-intensity programs can be used as needed, whenever you require comfort or relief.
I can’t feel the pelvic stimulation—what should I do?
If your Kegel8 device is showing the program screen and timer is running, the unit has power—it’s likely just a matter of adjusting the intensity. Each person’s sensitivity is different, so you’ll need to manually increase the intensity (measured in mA) to a level that feels right for you.
Use the plus (+) button on your unit to gradually raise the mA until you feel a gentle tingling or pulsing sensation. It should be comfortable, but strong enough that you can feel your muscles gently contracting.
As a general guide:
- When using a vaginal or anal probe, most users need to set the intensity above 30 mA to feel effective muscle contractions
- When using skin electrode pads, the sensation is typically felt at around 15 mA
Remember, the stimulation should never be painful—just noticeable enough to engage your pelvic floor muscles.
I can’t get the mAs above 20 — it’s too painful. Why is that?
If you experience discomfort or a sharp, prickling sensation when trying to increase the intensity above 20 mA, it could be a sign of vaginal atrophy or vaginal dryness. These conditions can make using a vaginal probe uncomfortable or even painful. Vaginal atrophy is common, especially during or after menopause, and can also contribute to symptoms of a weak pelvic floor, including bladder leaks or urgency.
In this case, speak to your healthcare provider about trying a topical estrogen treatment, such as Vagifem or a similar product available in Canada. These treatments can help restore moisture and elasticity to the vaginal tissues. After approximately 30 days of treatment, most women find they can comfortably resume using their Kegel8 device with a vaginal probe.
If you're using the Kegel8 Ultra 20, you also have the option to exercise your pelvic floor without a probe. You can use electrode pads for:
- Tibial nerve stimulation (placed near the inner ankle)
- Sacral nerve stimulation (placed at the base of the spine)
These external options help improve circulation, strengthen pelvic muscles, and may even support improvements in vaginal atrophy and dryness.
Can I use a Kegel8 device during pregnancy?
According to clinical guidance, neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) devices like the Kegel8 Ultra 20, Kegel8 Tight & Tone, and Kegel8 Mother Nurture should not be used during pregnancy unless recommended by a healthcare professional.
Pregnancy puts added pressure on your pelvic floor muscles, and weakening can begin as early as 12 weeks. Instead of using a pelvic toner during this time, it’s recommended to practise manual pelvic floor exercises (Kegels) regularly throughout your pregnancy to keep your muscles strong and supportive.
A well-conditioned pelvic floor can help support a smoother labour and delivery and may lead to a faster post-partum recovery. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting any new pelvic floor treatment during pregnancy.
I'm finding it difficult or uncomfortable to insert the vaginal probe – what should I do?
If you're experiencing discomfort or difficulty inserting the vaginal probe, a hormone-free, water-based lubricant like KE Gel can make a big difference. It’s specially formulated to be body-safe, free from parabens, and ideal for use with pelvic floor devices. Simply apply a few drops directly onto the probe to ease insertion and improve comfort during your session.
However, if you're menopausal or post-menopausal, the issue may be related to vaginal atrophy—a common condition that causes dryness, thinning of the vaginal walls, and sensitivity. In these cases, lubricant alone may not be enough.
You have two options:
Speak to your doctor about a topical estrogen treatment, which can help restore moisture and elasticity to the vaginal tissue. After around 30 days, most women find that probe insertion becomes much more comfortable.
If you own a Kegel8 Ultra 20, you can skip the vaginal probe altogether by using external electrode pads for tibial nerve stimulation (near the ankle) or sacral nerve stimulation (at the base of the spine). These options offer clinically proven pelvic floor strengthening without internal use—perfect for those experiencing vaginal dryness or discomfort.
Don't let tough insertion discourage you—there are gentle, effective alternatives available to help you stay on track with your pelvic health journey.
